The Rutherglen Agricultural Show is now in its 130th year and continues look at new agricultural based events to retain the  traditions of a country show, with the addition of fun events for individuals and groups.    

An extensive Horse Program is available with Breed Classes, Led and Ridden Horse and Pony events and Fun Ring for novice ponies and riders.   Through an initiative of the Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria, sponsored by local TBV members Jim Conroy and Elizabeth Wilson of Springhurst, the "Off the Track" class this year has a fantastic additonal prize of $150 and a trophy horse rug.   New in the horse program this year is the "Hero" Standardbred Horse class has a $50 prize and Sash sponsored by VAS.

 The Lamb Program carries a trophies and excellent prizes with the Andrew Campbell Memorial class for Best Retail Trade Class, Gordon Fisher Memorial Trophy for Best Supermarket Class and Norm Killeen Memorial Trophy for Export Class.  Classes within the Lamb Program carry cash and prizes from our Sponsors - McNamaras AGnVET and their suppliers, Paull & Scollard of Corowa, Stanton & Killeen and the Corowa Stock Agents Association.

The Lamb Whisperer novelty event in the sheep and lamb area for under 15 yo competitors will be on again this year..  Just like the lamb in Mary Had a Little Lamb we are looking for young Lamb Whisperers.  Does your lamb or sheep follow you wherever you go ?  If so, bring them to the Show and win the prize sponsored by Rutherglen Veterinary Clinic.  Otherwise try your luck with the lamb we provide.

Win some cash in the  "Quess the Weight" of the lamb competition with great prizemoney available sponsored by James Baker of Springhurst.

We are continuing to introduce agricultural based events with another new event for the young competitors - Sheep Judging for Rural Youth - with prizemoney available sponsored by the Corowa Stock Agents Association.

 This year sees the return of a Cattle competition with Junior Cattle Handling & Judging classes sponsored by Landmark and Apex Club or Rutherglen, and classes for Heifers.  Visit the  Fleece and Crop and Poultry competitions.

If you have pet chooks at home, check out the Backyard Poultry classes in the Poultry.  Our sponsor Rivalea provide great product for our Champions.   A new competition in the Poultry Section this year, with prizemoney for the kids, is the Poultry Colouring Competition.  Kids - ask your school for a copy of the colouring template or download from our website.

 Other Special Events include:

Tug of War Competition for senior, Intermediate (high school age) and junior (primary school age) teams 

Dog Jumping Competition for small, medium and large dogs and a new fun section for Handbag Dogs

Nail Driving Competition for ladies and this year for the guys also !!

- hotly contested Men's Cake and Sauce Competition in the Pavilion for the lads to showcase their talents.

Trailer Backing Competition for Women

- Ferret Racing with great prizemoney

Visit the Pavilion and see demonstrations of old crafts with Hand Spinning demonstrations showing how the fleece from the lambs is turned into hanks of wool for knitting and craft work.

The Pavilion exhibits includes all those traditional country skills of Cooking, Home Preserves, Craft & Handiwork as well as very popular Photography and Art sections.  For the boys - the Pavilion classes are open to both male and female exhibitors. 

As well as Pavilion winners in VAS classes being eligible for Regional and State Finals, we now have some Special Awards in the Cookery and Photography for the winners to compete for prizemoney at a regional level only through sponsorship of VAS NE Region Society members.

The Rutherglen Show has always catered for the young in the community with junior sections in many categories and all of the local schools support the Show by encouraging student involvement. Regular features at the Rutherglen Show include Showgirl and Tiny Tots competitions,  a Petting Zoo, Clown, Pet Parade, Ferret Races, Vintage Machinery, Heritage Vehicles, Motor Bike display and an array of Market Stalls. We also have we have the Victorian Showman's Guild with a well presented sideshow alley and fun rides.
